Frequently Asked Questions — Foot Pain in Ken Caryl

These are the questions Dr. Sullivan hears most often from patients in your community.

Start with rest, ice (15-20 minutes at a time), and over-the-counter arch support insoles to
reduce acute discomfort. Stretching your calf and plantar fascia each morning before getting out
of bed also helps significantly. However, if bottom-of-foot pain persists beyond two to three
weeks, see Dr. Sullivan. Most chronic cases are caused by plantar fasciitis or structural foot
issues that require a targeted treatment plan—custom orthotics, shockwave therapy, or other
interventions—to resolve fully.

Foot arch pain is most commonly caused by plantar fasciitis, flat feet (fallen arches), or high-
arch (cavus foot) deformities. Overuse from running or prolonged standing, inadequate
footwear, and weight gain can all trigger or worsen arch pain. Dr. Sullivan uses gait analysis and
imaging to pinpoint the exact cause and recommend a precise treatment—not a one-size-fits-all
solution.

Top of foot pain in active individuals is most often caused by extensor tendinitis (inflamed
tendons), stress fractures from repetitive activity, midfoot arthritis, or nerve compression. Tight
shoes are a frequent contributing factor. Because several different structures run across the top
of the foot, an accurate diagnosis is essential—treatment differs significantly depending on
whether the cause is a tendon, bone, or nerve issue

For mild ingrown toenails, conservative ingrown toenail treatment—warm water soaks, proper
nail trimming, and wearing wider shoes—is often effective. For moderate to severe cases, or
those that keep recurring, Dr. Sullivan performs a quick in-office procedure under local
anesthetic to remove the problematic nail border and prevent regrowth. Most patients feel
significant relief the same day
